Associate – Strategy Consulting

Harbor Research is currently seeking an Associate to join our growing strategy consulting, business design, and research practice in Denver, CO. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated associate with experience in a strategy or technology consulting firm, technology-focused investment bank, or technology analyst firm.

As an associate and a member of our team, you will focus on key elements of client projects working towards leading engagements while learning to develop critical industry insights. You will have direct interactions with senior staff, client executives and a high degree of independence as you conduct analyses, interview clients and their customers, translate insights into recommendations, and support the firm’s development of thought leadership.

Our consulting engagements cover a wide range of work including new growth opportunity assessments, go-to-market strategies, product portfolio analysis, technology road mapping, customer use case research and competitive analysis. Given the fast pace and nature of our work, we expect the Associate to be able to quickly identify and fill skills gaps to make an immediate impact within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and learn core skills quickly to be able to make an immediate impact;
  • Be able to work independently and manage open-ended and less-defined tasks
  • Independently execute basic industry or company research
  • Undertaking industry or company-level financial analysis
  • Build quantitative models and interpret results
  • Conduct fact-finding phone or in-person interviews
  • Create succinct and logically-structured reportsthat articulate trends, define/size business and market opportunities, and effectively portray key findings
  • Assist with the development, design, and authoring of firm thought leadership, including industry white papers, reports, and other various publications
  • Balance multiple work streams simultaneously within a challenging and demanding environment

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience with a business or technology strategy firm, technology-focused investment bank, market research firm or similar;
  • BA/BS degree from top-tier university in economics, business, or similar analytical field;
  • Strong organizational, creative, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Advanced presentation development with Powerpoint and Excel modeling skills;
  • Demonstrated interest in technology-enabled growth opportunities

Senior Associate & Project Lead – Strategy Consulting

Job Description – Senior Associate & Project Lead – Strategy Consulting

Harbor Research is currently seeking a Senior Associate and Project Lead in our consulting practice in Denver, CO. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated consultant with experience in market and technology research, preferably in a consulting firm, industry analyst firm, or market research firm environment.

The Senior Associate will act as the primary point of contact on projects and team lead to drive projects to their successful completion. Our projects and consulting engagements cover a wide range of topics including go-to-market strategies, product portfolio analysis, customer use cases and segmentation, competitive analysis and environmental scans.

Responsibilities

This position requires a commitment to rigorous work, consistent high-quality outputs, intellectual curiosity and a high degree of initiative and self-governance.

  • Serving as project lead and managing research and analysis activities to deliver the project work on time and within budget
  • Design and develop activities to understand client objectives and design engagement outcomes
  • Develop quantitative analysis of market and emerging technology opportunities as well as support our internal Smart Systems model
  • Research and monitor select emerging technology companies to support Harbor’s research covering the Internet of Things and related smart systems arena
  • Contribute actively to content, publications and program development
  • Participate and manage various process improvement projects to increase operational efficiency and contribute to the further development of the organization
  • Balance multiple work streams simultaneously within a challenging and demanding environment

Qualifications

This position, at a minimum, requires 2+ years of applied experience with a strategy consulting firm or technology focused investment bank or relevant market research firm (we will not review any resumes that do not include this).

  • Demonstrated creative, research and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • Applied PowerPoint and Excel skills, experience with InDesign is a plus
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and lead in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment – both virtually and in-person
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with experience/proficiency using analytical tools and models
  • Entrepreneurial/leadership experience (decision-making, comfort and experience dealing with ambiguity)
  • Strong business acumen, presence, and communication skills
  • Background and demonstrated interest in emerging technology-driven arenas
  • 2-5 years of experience with a strategy consulting or market research firm
  • A detail-oriented problem-solving approach to business issues
  • Proven experience managing people in a fast-paced environment and ability to affectively contribute in a team environment
  • BA/BS degree from top-tier university in economics, business, or similar quantitative field
